Saussure and Barthes
For the week of September 15th, we will be discussing the Saussure and Barthes readings. For Saussure, you should focus on Chapters IV–VI, which contain the material most relevant for our purposes. I should mention that this is probably some of the most abstract theory that we read in the course and can be very difficult to understand. So do not worry if you feel a bit overwhelmed by the technical terms that are presented. Also, keep in mind that there is no screening for this week.
